Toner into champions cup quarters with leinster
Meath Sportsperson of the Year Devin Toner played his 40th European game today when he helped Leinster to 20-20 draw with hosts Wasps and that was good enough to earn a Champions Cup quarter-final place.
The Moynalvey man took the Meath Sportsperson of the Year accolade at the eighth annual awards night on Thursday at Knightsbrook in Trim and was thrilled with the award (see short video clip).
Today, his focus was firmly on helping his team to qualify and Leinster held on for the draw in Coventry.
Wasps produced a battling second-half fightback after they trailed by 14 points (6-20) at the interval They also missed a last minute drop-goal attempt for a win that would have seen Wasps top Pool 2.
As a result of the draw Leinster now go through as group winners, but will have to rely on other results over the weekend to see if they will have home advantage in the last eight.
Wasps could progress as one of the three best runners up.
