Low point for navan as highfield march to comfortable victory

There were few consolations for Navan as they slumped to a 3-31 defeat at the hands of Highfield in the AIL Div 2B at Balreask Old today.

On a day when the the club celebrated 50 years at Balreask Old it was the visitors who played most of the rugby to comfortably wrap up a win.

Sitting pretty at the top of the table an experienced yet highly effective Highfield side showed why they are now strong favourites to win the league title.

They were solid in the set-pieces and moved the ball with conviction and with the help of two tries from James Daly and one apiece from Paul Stack, Peter Martin, and Brian O'Hea they romped to a comfortable victory. 

Out-half Paddy O'Toole also played his part with three conversions. Victory was all but assured for the Cork side when they led 19-3 at the break. 

Navan's only score came from the boot of player/coach Alan Kingsley who fired the ball between the posts from a penalty early in the game.

The home side did assert themselves for spells, particularly in the second-half,  but couldn't break through for a badly needed try.

Centre Riaan Van Der Vyver came closest to getting a touchdown for them near the end but he knocked on almost at the tryline. That incident summed up Navan's day.
