Meath rack up big win over down
It was a case of third time lucky for Meath as they racked up a 4-14 to 1-6 victory over Down in the Ladies NFL Div 2 at Ashbourne today.
After a defeat to Kildare and a draw with Clare Diane O'Hora's team needed a win to kick-start their campaign and they certainly achieved that in this their third outing in their schedule.
Not that they had to rely on luck to bag the two points on offer. They were superior in most sectors of the field. With the help of the strong wind they led 3-13 to 0-0 at the interval.
Geraldine Doherty was in excellent form in that opening half contributing 2-5 to her team's tally with Bridgetta Lynch also netting. Doherty went on to add another point from a free in the second-half.
Down managed to get a goal in the second-half through Emily Martin but they never looked like they would catch the hosts.
The outcome was effectively decided when Emma Troy fired the ball to the net after she embarked on a mazy run that cut a path through the Down defence.
Meath now face Westmeath in their next outing and that encounter is sure to be a lot more taxing than this one-sided affair.
