Bright business ideas at student enterprise awards

Some of the brightest second-level business students in the county will showcase their entrepreneurial talent at the Meath Local Enterprise Office Student Enterprise Awards in Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim, on Tuesday 10th March from 12 noon to 3pm.

The young students have founded and run their own businesses since September 2014.

Up to 200 students will compete for the honour of representing Meath at the national final of the LEO Student Enterprise Awards, which take place on Wednesday 22nd April at Croke Park. Cash prizes will also be awarded by the Local Enterprise Office, and each participating student will be presented with a special certificate.
Participating businesses have been selected from hundreds set up in the county’s schools over the past few months. On the day, participating students will undergo an interview, make a pitch to a panel of 'Dragons’ and have their goods or services on display.
“This event aims to give students a taste of the commercial world,” said Jackie Maguire, chief executive of Meath County Council. “We are delighted to see that the students range in age from 12 to 17 years, as it is one of the primary aims of the Local Enterprise Office to promote an enterprise culture from an early age.”
Participating schools include Ashbourne Community School, Athboy Community School, Dunshaughlin Community College, Loreto St Michael’s Secondary School, Navan; Coláiste na hInse, Bettystown; St Ciaran’s Community School, Kells; St Joseph’s Mercy Secondary School in Navan; St Oliver Post-Primary School, Oldcastle; St Patrick’s Classical School, Navan, and St Peter’s College, Dunboyne.
