Risk of further snow showers forecasters warn

Met Eireann is warning of further snow and ice to come over the next 24 hours as the current cold snap continues.

Much of Meath was blanked with snow on Sunday as heavy wintry showers persisted from late morning till early afternoon.

Frost and ice will clear most areas this morning to give a cold and bright day with sunny spells but further scattered wintry showers. Wintry showers will be most frequent for west and north-west counties,but all areas will remain at risk, especially later in the day. Further accumulations are likely, forecasters warn.

It will be cold tonight with scattered wintry showers persisting, with the risk of further snow accumulations and temperature lows of 0 to minus 3 degrees Celsius, with frost and icy patches developing. 

More of the same for tomorrow with sunny spells and scattered wintry showers and snow accumulations in parts to begin with though these are likely to be closer to the Atlantic coast. 

Temperatures will begin to return to near normal from Tuesday night as southwest breezes take hold and high pressure begins to build, according to Met Eireann.
