Cortown off to a winning start
Cortown returned to the IFC grade after last year's JFC success and made a winning start at Pairc Tailteann this evening when they proved too resourceful for Clann na nGael as they won by 3-10 to 1-9.
This was a battling display by Cortown who finished with 14 men after Tommy Smith was red-carded in the second-half.
The numerical advantage didn't last long for Clann na nGael as they had Gary Woods dismissed soon after.
Cortown were ahead by 2-4 to 0-5 at the interval with Breen Smith and David Rispin finding the net. Clann na nGael closed the gap with a solid third-quarter display that yielded a Caoimhin O Griofa goal.
Cortown steadied the ship and finished with a flourish as Ryan O'Rourke claimed his side's third goal.
