More teams join quest for jubilee cup glory as trim show intent
Action in the SHC continues today when Blackhall Gaels and Navan O'Mahonys take on each other at Kilmessan, 5pm while at 6.45 Killyon and Kildalkey clash in a crunch tie at Trim.
Trim kicked started their campaign last evening and indicated that they will once more be a force in this year's SHC when they defeated Kilmessan 2-15 to 1-14.
Eamonn Clancy's side led most of the way. With the help of a well-taken Neil Heffernan goal they led 1-8 to 0-8 at the interval.
James Toher helped himself to nine points over the hour and his accuracy from frees helped to keep Trim in front throughout the second-half.
At one stage soon after the resumption, Kilmessan trailed 0-8 to 1-11 but with the help of a Nicky Horan goal they hauled themselves right back into contention.
Horan's free-taking was a big factor in helping Kilmessan whittle Trim's lead down to a single point in the closing stages.
However Trim sealed their win in stoppage time when Damien McGee ran through to slot the ball to the Kilmessan net.
At times Trim played fast-paced, controlled hurling and overall deserved the victory over their old rivals.
In the other game in last night's SHC Dunderry defeated Rathmolyon.
