Down syndrome photo exhibition opens in trim

An outdoor exhibition featuring photographs of children with Down Syndrome will be launched in Trim tomorrow morning at 11am.
The Louth/Meath Branch of Down Sydrome Ireland is hosting the exhibition which is already in place in the grounds of Trim Castle and will continue until 2nd July.
The exhibition, entitled ‘Here I Am’, features images captured by photographer Dan Murphy celebrating the unique personalities of children with Down Syndrome in Ireland.
In March, Mr Murphy launched a book of photographs called ‘Here I Am: Challenging Perceptions Of Down Syndrome in Ireland’ and the exhibition features several of the images from this book.
The photographs are double-sided and mounted on a concrete base which is 2m x 1.10m wide. The base weighs 1800kg and has an adjustable height picture frame. Ten of these stands have already been exhibited in the grounds of Dublin Castle for World Down Syndrome Day on 21st March. The exhibition is now travelling throughout the country.
Trim-based TD Ray Butler, who has a sister with Down Syndrome, liaised with the OPW to get the go-ahead for the exhibition in the grounds of Trim Castle.
He said raising awareness is something very close to his heart and he is delighted that the exhibition is coming to Trim.
The exhibition was first launched by Brendan O’Connor on RTE’s ‘Saturday Night Show’ earlier this year.
