Celebrations for Easy Boy in the winners' enclosure.

Pats easy boy at bellewstown

Bellewstown hosted the Gerry Hughes Memorial race today to remember a well-known local musician and postman who was an avid racegoer at the track, but sadly passed away in 2001 and the winner was locally-trained from the Pat Martin stable near Navan with Easy Boy taking the honours.

There was a large crowd at the second of the three days for the July meeting with the Best Dressed Lady award adding to the glamour as the sun did its best to shine and keep the chill out of the wind.

The Tote returns for the day showed an increase on last year with over €167,000 wagered although there was a glitch or two with the computers before the start of the third race - the gremlins were removed and it was back to 'normal' from the fourth race on.

Tonight's card was all flat racing, but tomorrow's action is national hunt only with six hurdle races, the first is off at 4.50pm

The next racing at Bellewstown after that will be the 40th anniversary of Yellow Sam winning there in 1975 - the two-day festival will take place on 26th and 27th August-both evening meetings.
