Cowboys head for navan friday evening
There will be lots of cowboys (and girls) looking for satisfaction around Navan tomorrow and many of them will getting ready for Saturday's trip to Omagh where they will be cheering for the Royal County in the All-Ireland SFC against Tyrone.
Before that, however, they will be utilising the complementary shuttle bus running from Navan Town Centre to the Racecourse for the popular annual Country & Western-themed raceday with the white flag set for 5.35pm on a night when the feature event is worth €100,000 - transferred from Leopardstown.
The first shuttle will depart from around Market Square at 5pm, but if you can't make that one, catch the 6.30pm shuttle.
That will get you there in time for the last four races and, most-importantly, the BBQ and post-racing music featuring Trevor Smith and Ken Gillick singing all the favorite American Country and Western songs - Garth Brooks, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and probably a few more as well.
The racing and music package is offered at €12 and for those eligible for a concession, it's €10.
Keep an eye out for the Meath Chronicle photographer who will be looking for the 'best cowboys'who will feature in the next edition.
With the Meath team due to be announced tomorrow morning for the game against Tyrone on Saturday, we are aiming to get the weekend off to a positive start with a prediction that a Meath horse will win each of the seven races - and what's more, we will identify them for you, so read on now.
RACE ONE 5.35
Ger Lyons has two in this, a claiming race, his well-regarded Dandyleekie could get our weekend off to a flyer despite top weight.
RACE TWO 6.05
Interesting contest over almost six furlongs, take in the stiff finish at Navan and it will probably feel like six furlongs. Ger Lyons has Trust Your Opinion in the frame, formerly trained by Willie McCreery, but McCreery has Stinky Socks as a first-time runner for Gigginstown after winning on the all-weather at Wolverhampton last October - won't handle the Navan finish. Trust Your Opinion will be hard-pressed to beat Belezza Oscura - come on Meath.
RACE THREE 6.35
Try Glass House but it's a two-year-old race????
RACE FOUR 7.05
A real touch of the GAA about this one with a trainer in from (Pat Martin) and a former Meath legend as the owner (Pat Reynolds) - it can only be Red All Star.
RACE FIVE 7.35
Two horses trained within a mile of each other could feature - Unsinkable from Kiltale and Shalaman from Kilmessan in the BIG RACE of the night.
RACE SIX 8.05
Jim Bolger likely to win this one, but come on Meath - Intisari.
RACE SEVEN 8.35
Could be a great evening for ger Lyons if Vale Do Sol can make it seven Meath winners on the night.
See y'all there
