Lyons on the double at navan

Kiltale-based Ger Lyons left it late at Navan tonight, but he completed a double by taking the last two races on the card for Carrickmacross owner Sean Jones with talented Trim jockey Colin Keane on board each time.

Vale Do Sol won the last and Intisari won the second last to send the punters who were following the Lyons/ Keane combination all evening home in a happt mood - or at least to the barbecue and country and western end-of-night music entertainment in a buoyant mood.

The first €100,000 race at Navan produced a fantastic finish and Lyons and Keane were out of luck when the post just failed to arrive in time for Unsinkable - the grey gelding was sunk by the fast-finishing I'll Be Your Clown which prevailed by a head with the Kilmessan-trained Shalaman a short-head away in third place.

Ashbourne owner Gerry Clarke with Drogheda man Simon Mulvany were in the winners' enclosure with Catwilldo which followed up on last week's win at Bellewstown.

There was a Dunboyne connection through Mrs Shirley Shiels when Anonymous Lady which won the 45-75 handicap.

The facilities at Navan tonight were at their best for the patrons and there was praise also from Ger Lyons for the staff who look after the track - 'I'd like to thank Vincent Eivers (head groundsman) as that track is in amazing condition with no rain,' commented the trainer.

Video clip shows the third (Shalaman), second (Unsinkable) and the winner (Ill Be Your Clown) returning to the winners' enclosure after the big race - waiting for the result to be confirmed.
