More antiwater charges marches planned

The Right2Water campaign is planning to hold demonstrations in 15 Meath towns and villages over the next several months.

The cathaoirleach of the Meath Right2Water campaign, Peadar Tóibín, has announced the campaign is set to intensify its fight against water charges in Meath over the next six months.

'We will organise 15 demonstrations in 15 separate towns and villages in Meath until the local government TDs listen to the people and get the message. €1.2 billion has been spent in setting up Irish Water. Not one cent of this money went in fixing a leaking pipe or conserving water,' said the Navan Sinn Fein TD.

He said the announcement that only 43 per cent of households have paid their water charges to date proves the campaign is working and that people power 'can and will see the total abolition of household water charges once and for all'.  

The first rally will take place in Trim this Saturday, 18th July, meeting at Finnegan's Way at 1pm. Further demonstrations will be in Kells, Dunshaughlin, Dunboyne, Enfield, Ballivor, Slane, Oldcastle, Bettystown/Laytown, Athboy, Ratoath, Clonard, Duleek, Ashbourne and Navan.
