Paddy obrien park opened to honour great omahonys man
Members of the Navan O'Mahonys GAA club turned out in force for the official opening of the Paddy O'Brien Park at Brews Hill today.
The home of the current SFC champions is named after one of the stalwarts of the club who also had a street named after him in Navan.
Paddy O'Brien coached numerous young O'Mahonys players over the years and also served as club secretary for 25 years from 1955.
He also had many other roles at juvenile level in the club including chairman of the Juvenile Committee. He also served as secretary of the Meath Juvenile Board and won a Meath GAA Hall of Fame Award in 1995.
The centre-piece of today's event was the unveiling of a plaque to officially open Paddy O'Brien Park and was carried out by Meath Co Board chairman Conor Tormey and Navan O'Mahonys chairman Louis Kinsella.
The Co Board were represented by the chairman and PRO Martin O'Halloran while there were representatives from other clubs in the Navan area including Jim Lane (Simonstown) and Joey Geraghty (Bective).
A blessing of the newly-named ground was carried out by Fr Declan Hurley and Rev Eileen Armstrong.
The event was attended by many O'Mahonys players past and present.
