Gary rogers aiming for euro success
Bohermeen man Gary Rogers will be a key player for Dundalk tomorrow night when the League of Ireland champions face BATE Borisov from Belarus in the second qualifying round, second leg of the Champions League at Oriel Park this Wednesday night, 7.45pm.
Dundalk trail (1-2) after the first leg last week in Belarus, but the away goal, scored by David McMillan, will give the Irish team a realistic chance of progressing to the next round of the competition.
For Dundalk, a 1-0 victory will suffice, but they will have to guard against conceding a goal when they face a team that has regularly featured in the knock-out stages of European competitions over the past number of seasons.
Rogers has enjoyed some good European nights during his career with notable wins achieved both with St Patrick’s Athletic and last year with Sligo Rovers when he played on the team that defeated Rosenborg 2-1 in Norway, but then failed to win the second leg.
That chastening experience could be vital in helping Rogers and his high-flying Dundalk team to get across the line this time around.
See the game on RTE 2 at 7.45pm tomorrow night.
