Three meath athletes los angeles bound
Three Meath athletes are travelling to Los Angeles this week to represent Ireland in the Special Olympics World Games.
Francis Power, Liam Foley and Rosemary O’Reilly are part of the 88 strong Team Ireland. The Irish athletes are among 7,000 athletes competing at the global World Summer Games and Team Ireland will compete in 12 Olympic style sports as well as taking part in a spectacular opening ceremony to be staged at iconic Memorial Coliseum on Saturday (25th July).
Francis Power (34) from Navan will represent Ireland at table tennis.
He has been a member of the Navan Arch Club for many years where he concentrates his time on table tennis. Francis said he was “delighted to be picked” and in preparation for the games has been taking part in monthly squad table tennis sessions where he was put through his paces.
Liam Foley, (17) from the Hill of Down, Enfield is a member of the Irish Badminton Team and is thrilled to be competing in the Special Olympics World Games.
Liam has been playing Badminton for six years now at his local club Killyon Badminton Club, Enfield. In the run up to the games Liam did lots of training and kept himself motivated through varying his routine.
Liam says “I live on a farm with my family and one brother, two sisters, and my Mam and Dad. I am the youngest in the family. I am on the School Cross Country team and the School Choir.”
Rosemary O’Reilly (29) from Tara will represent Team Ireland in golf.
Rosemary has a long association with Special Olympics Ireland and has been playing golf for many years. To ensure she gives herself the best possible chance in Los Angeles Rosemary has been playing as much Golf as possible and training weekly with her cub.
