Three bells for pat downey

Local trainer Pat Downey who is based near Slane enjoyed a visit to the winners' enclosure last night at Leopardstown when the consistent Three Bells followed up on a win at Fairyhouse last month by taking the six-furlong handicap with Wayne Lordan on board.

Lordan hit the front inside the final furlong with the 8/1 shot and overhauled the leader Glimmer Of Peace.

However, he then held off the late surge from the Eddie Lynam-trained favourite Captain Power by a neck with the Ardee-trained (Harry Rogers) Acroleina in third.

There was a great reception in the winners' enclosure by the memebrs of the syndicate who own Three Bells who are from the Lobinstown area.

Three Bells ran disappointingly at The Curragh last time out and could now head for Listowel - a race at Navan is also on the cards.

Moynalty jockey Declan McDonogh was also on the mark at the Foxrock track when he scored with Creggs Pipes for Killenaule trainer Andrew Slattery.

McDonogh's front-running tactics were successful and he had a length and a quarter to spare at the post from Peace Mission. The Moynalty native also won the opener at Gowran Park on Wednesday for boss John Oxx.

Bohermeen man Johnny Murtagh trained the winner of the last race at Leopardstown last night when Jolyne got off the mark after two placed efforts in three previous starts.
