Elliott on the mark at tramore
Longwood-based Gordon Elliot sent out his second winner of the month at Tramore on Friday evening to take his tally for the season to 35 and remain at the top of the trainers' leaderboard, two ahead of champion trainer Willie Mullins.
Dunshaughlin jockey Keith Donoghue was on board Broughtons Bandit which was returned at 16/1 after winning the Beginners Chase.
Formerly trained in England, the eight-year-old won a class six handicap at Kempton over two miles for a first racecourse success, but didn't win again until soon after arriving in Elliott's yard last April.
The popular trainer managed to win a handicap hurdle with Broughtons Bandit in July, but yesterday evening's victory was a debut run over fences and, according the his jockey, he is a better horse over the major obstacles.
'I rode him last week over hurdles and today he was a different horse. He travelled and jumped brilliant and in the end he actually did it easy, he was good and brave over the last two,' Donoghue told Donal Murphy of irishracing.com
