Gaeil colmcille keep on winning
Gaeil Colmcille caused a Sunday shock at Páirc Táilteann - to add to the one Na Fianna caused on Saturday evening when they got the better of Donaghmore / Ashbourne in the SFC quarter-final by 1-15 to 0-11 - with a 2-7 to 0-12 SFC quarter-final victory against local rivals Wolfe Tones.
This now sets up a semi-final between Gaeil Colmcille and Na Fianna - a repeat of the Feis Cup final.
This was a hard-earned victory for Gaeil Colmcille and one that looked unlikely for long periods of a gripping encounter.
Wolfe Tones dominated the opening exchanges against a sluggish Gaeil Colmcille side and were well in control by the end of the first-quarter with a 0-5 to 0-1 advantage.
Brian Hanlon's fifth minute pointed free was of little consolation to the Gaeil Colmcille supporters at that stage, but then Seamus Mattimoe sent over a brace (one free) before Cormac Keegan drilled an inspirational free over the black spot.
Brian Hanlon's goal left Gaeil Colmcille adrift by 1-4 to 0-8 at the interval, but after the resumption the Tones started to grind out the scores to lead by 0-11 to 1-6 going into the final quarter.
Niall O'Reilly's point extended the advantage to three, but Brian Hanlon scored another goal to tie it up at 0-12 to 2-6 before he sent over the winning point.
Tones were out of luck when Cian Ward's late effort hit the post - the third time he was denied in that way - and the Kells side held on for victory.
