Trim wins gold in entente florale
Trim has won a Gold Medal in the European Entente Florale Competition. The results were announced at an awards ceremony in Bristol.
The town was nominated by the Department of the Environment Community & Local Government as one of just two Irish entries in the European competition following the town’s gold medal success in the national Tidy Towns competition.
Entente Florale is aimed at improving the quality of life for local urban and village communities through the cultivation of a greener and more pleasant environment in towns and villages.
The judging panel visited Trim on 17th July for a six-hour inspection of the town and judged Trim on ten different criteria.
The competition is not just based on flowers and the appearance of the town but also covers areas such as the landscape, environment, tourism, and sustainability.
A huge effort was put in by Meath County Council, the local tidy towns committee and the community in general to ensure the town was looking its best in advance of judging.
As well as the planting of an abundance of flowers and plants, other works undertaken including resurfacing, painting, the completion of the local playground and an upgrade of pedestrian crossings.
