Boyne search continues for missing man
A search operation launched in the early hours of Sunday morning after a young man was seen entering the Boyne has concluded for the evening.
The search for the missing 21-year-old which has involved a number of organisations including Meath River Rescue, Meath Civil Defence, Irish Coastguard, the Garda Underwater Unit, Boyne Fishermen’s Rescue and Recovery Service, Drogheda River Rescue and the Irish Underwater Search and Recovery Unit, as well as local gardai, is set to resume tomorrow morning.
The alarm was raised at around 2.35am on Sunday morning when the young man was seen entering the Boyne at the New Bridge on the Kentstown Road/Dublin Road junction. Gardai were alerted and two boats were despatched by Meath River Rescue along with a boat from Meath Fire Service. Crews remained on the river until 5pm that evening but without success in locating the missing man. The Irish Coastguard Rescue helicopter also participated in the search in the early hours of Sunday morning. Meath Civil Defence also joined the search that morning.
Today, there were seven boats involved in the search operation on the river. The search has concluded for the evening but is set to resume tomorrow morning.
