Eureka students visited Leinster House recently, where they met Minister Damien English

Eureka sod turning on Friday

The official sod turning of the new Eureka Secondary School in Kells will take place at 10am on Friday by Minister Damien English.
The new school will accommodate 800 students, with the building expected to be ready for occupation by the second half of 2017.
Building firm Inspired Spaces Consortium has been appointed to deliver the new building under a public private partnership model (PPP).
It will be a purpose-built facility and will include a full-size PE hall, science labs, kitchens, technology and art rooms, computer rooms as well as playing fields.
Under the PPP model, Inspired Spaces will design and build the school as well as manage its day-to-day caretaking, cleaning and maintenance for the next 25 years.
The site for the new school had been the subject of controversy for many years with sharp divisions among councillors over whether it should be sited on the Cavan Road on land acquired through the Redress Board or on land adjacent to the current school, St Ciaran’s Community College and the primary school.
Landowners on the Navan Road had indicated their preparedness to swap lands to facilitate the Navan Road site.
