Parkvilla launch 50th anniversary celebrations
Claremont Stadium hosted a night of nostalgia this evening with the official launch by club chairman Gerry Kennedy of Parkvilla 50 – a year long series of events that will mark the 50th anniversary (1966-2016) of the Navan club.
The year got off to a good start for the Navan club last week when stalwart official Ultan Coogan was named as the Meath Chronicle PRO of the Year at the annual sports awards in Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim.
Ultan was there tonight in his official PRO capacity recording the event with a series of photographs that will, no doubt, go on display in the future to compliment the excellent display of photographs and reports that were on show tonight.
Some of the former 'greats' of the club who were enjoying a brief appearance in the limelight again included Shane Faulkner, Jimmy Quinlan, Martin Rogers, Gerry Bradley, Ken 'Red' McGoona, Paul McGoona, Barry McCabe, Paddy Newman and Jimmy 'Hank' Newman and Mick Moriarty along with many of the clubs current under-age players who will be the stars of tomorrow.
Local elected officials were also present including Cllr Joe Reilly and Peadar Toibin TD along with Mark Scanlon (FAI) and Gerry Gorman (NEFL) and Gerry Browne (NECSL).
Also present were members of the Claremont Stadium Club committee who developed the facility over the years in an initiative between Parkvilla FC and Navan AC.
The 50th committee comprises Eddie Starrs, Martin Rogers and Ultan Coogan and the next big event is a gala night in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan on 16th April with only a limited number of tickets available for that event.
There will also be a library exhibition, a legends night and a Mass in November plus many other events that are still in the planning stage.
