All-Ireland exit for Dunshaughlin Community College
There was no joy this afternoon for the girls from Dunshaughlin Community College when they were eclipsed by their counterparts from Mercy, Roscommon in the All-Ireland Post Primary Senior C quarter-final at windswept Dunganny, the Meath GAA Centre of Excellence.
Mercy, Roscommon won by 0-10 to 0-4 in a competitive encounter, but the Connacht side always looked capable of grinding out a victory in what were very challenging conditions for the players.
Mercy were ahead by 0-5 to 0-3 at the interval with Nadine Doyle claiming the points for the Meath girls.
Doyle also claimed Dunshaughlin's solitary second-half point in a fiercely competitive third-quarter that saw Mercy lead by 0-6 to 0-4.
Leah Rowe scored six points for Mercy with Shauna Fallon sending over a brace from play, but the point-of-the-game was from Mercy full-back Niamh Farrell midway through the second-half when she converted a free from midfield.
Rachel Fitzmaurice also pointed for the Roscommon girls who finished with 14 players after Kildare referee Jason Corcoran red-carded Coleen Kelly in the closing minutes.
Mercy won the All-Ireland D title in 2015.
