Meath set for camogie opener against Westmeath

Meath’s National Camogie League Div 2 campaign will throw-in next Sunday with a short journey to tackle neighbours Westmeath in the first of four qualifying games that could pave the way to a final at the end of April.

Meath will also face Cork, Galway and Antrim in a five-team group from which the top two will qualify for the semi-finals.

Last year in the National Camogie League Div 2 Meath showed some inconsistent form with wins against Cork (1-9 to 2-5) and Down (2-14 to 3-9) but defeats by Kilkenny and Waterford.

In the Leinster Intermediate final they were defeated by four points (1-9 to 1-13) by Kilkenny at Nowlan Park while in the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship they got off to a terrible start when they lost by four points (0-9 to 2-13 ) against Cork.

However, they bounced back to defeat Down and Galway and then racked up an impressive 2-16 to 0-4 win over Wexford to earn a place in the last four.

Meath were unlucky in the semi-final when they lost out by a point (3-9 to 3-10) to eventual champions Waterford in a thrilling encounter at Nowlan Park.

Following the league campaign, Meath will face Down, Galway, Cork and Kildare in the championship with the first game scheduled for Saturday 25th June against the Ulster girls.
