John Malone (Independent)

Independent candidate John Malone lives in Oldcastle and is married to Sheila. They share many interests together.
A member of Fianna Fail for many years, he enjoys painting and has won prizes in the Oldcastle and Virginia Agricultural Shows. He has worked in the animal health food business and dealt with family businesses in the wholesale and retail grocery trade, supporting good quality Irish food manufacturers. But he says the unbridled expansion and domination of major supermarket chains with the support of the political establishment has led to the closure of these once thriving family businesses, leading to the decline of towns and villages throughout the country.
Representing the Christian & Jobs Action Party, Mr Malone is pro-life and says he abhors the murder of innocents. He adds he will oppose vigorously any effort by some political parties and the media, television, radio and national newspapers to bring abortion about in Ireland. He also supports conscience clauses for Irish citizens who do not support the same sex marriage referendum and says rejects efforts by some political parties to “hijack” Catholic schools.
