Meath players ready for League of Ireland kick-off
Bohermeen man and Meath Sportsperson of the Year Gary Rogers will be back in action with Dundalk as they bid to make it three-in-a-row of League of Ireland titles this year with thes eason set to start this weekend.
The Bohermeen man was on duty with Cavan footballers in his capacity as goalkeeping coach at Páirc Tailteann on Sunday as the Breffni men defeated Meath in the NFL Div 2.
Rogers is one of a number of Meath men who will be in action this weekend when the first round of games in the 2016 League of Ireland season kicks-off on Friday and Saturday.
Rogers completed a league and cup double last year in his first season with Dundalk and will be eager to help the Louth men make a winning start to the defence of their league title against Bray Wanderers at the Carisle Grounds on Saturday evening.
Georgie Poynton from Bettystown is also a member of the Dundalk panel.
Dylan Connolly, who has connections in Johnstown, Navan has signed for the Wicklow side after a spell with Irswich Town in England.
Aaron Shanahan from Navan and former Kells/Blackwater player Paul Finnegan are also with Bray.
That is one of two games scheduled for Saturday and the other game will feature a Meath player on each side when Timmy Clancy lines out for Sligo Rovers against Shamrock Rovers at the Showgrounds who include David O’Connor from Trim in their panel.
Kealan Dillon and Lee Duffy have both signed for Longford Town.
Athboy’s Jamie McGrath will line out for St Patrick’s Athletic again this season after making a good impression in 2015.Dunboyne man Cathal Brady and Greg Sloggett from Gormanston will play for UCD in the First Division.
Shane Dunne from Duleek will be a key figure with Premier new boys Wexford Youths and last week along with Darren McGarry from Trim, they both played prominent roles for IT Carlow in the Colleges and Universities Premier final.
