Sean Byrne in 'Voice' battle on Sunday
It’s the final battle of the series and the remaining contestants are vying for the chance to go through to the Live Knockouts which kick off on Sunday 20th March. This week one of Una’s contestants – Johnny Kohlmeyer - takes a shine to her and flirts outrageously during rehearsals at Bellingham Castle. He can’t concentrate and she has never seen flirting like it!
In the past Bressie has been criticised for his song choices, on Sunday night’s show he picks songs for BOTH his battles and none of his team know the songs. They’ll have to learn lyrics and melodies and he feels all four contestants are not putting the work in.
Battles on the show this week:
Team Una: Hannah Ferguson vs Johnny Kohlmeyer
Team Bressie: Nerissa Moore vs Sean Byrne / Georgina Richmond vs Marty Bonner
Team Kian: Luke Ray Lacey vs Aaron Carroll / Kelsey Hoare vs Mary Ward
Team Rachel: Ciaran O’Driscoll vs Alex Sykes / Johnny Garvey vs Jordan O’Neill
First up is Team Bressie and he has put Donegal girl Nerissa Moore (24) with Navan native Sean Byrne (21). He has given them Bruce Springsteen’s Secret Garden to sing and neither of them know the song. With the melody and the lyrics to learn Bressie is sure they will put the work in and when they clearly haven’t he is not happy ‘you can’t change somebody’s work ethic, it’s up to you to decide how good you want to make this.
On Team Rachel Johnny Garvey (34) from Galway and 2fm Wildcard Jordan O’Neill (will be singing James Bay’s Let it Go. Both lads love the song and they are really happy with the song choice. Johnny works as a music therapist in Galway and Jordan as one of the youngest in the competition. Rachel feels Jordan is pushing it a little too much in rehearsal and advises him to step back a bit in his performance. Will he heed her advice?
Team Kian’s turn is next with Carlow lad and 2fm Wild card Luke Ray Lacey (19) singing against Aaron Carroll. Luke is an Ed Sheeran fanatic so is delighted when they are given Bloodstream to sing.
During rehearsals Kian is not overly excited by their performance.
Team Una is up next with the battle of Derry and she has put the ‘country coolness’ together with Hannah Ferguson (20) and Johnny Kohlmeyer (32) singing Hurts so Good by Kenny Chesney and Gretchen Wilson. Una feels it’s a song that will suit their voices and it’s a sexy song. Although it might be affecting Johnny as he has taken a bit of a shine to our Una.
He is a massive flirt, I have never seen the likes of it. I am sure he flirts with everyone, I am sure he flirts with the cat at home!
Bressie has decided to pit 2fm Wild Card Georgina Moore (30) from Belfast with Martin Bonner (34 Derry) with a Rolling Stones song – Gimme Shelter. Again for the second time tonight Bressie has picked a song his contestants don’t know. And he is not happy with their efforts. ‘If they did work..they didn’t work effectively. He tells them ‘at this point in time it’s not acceptable; there is no excuse for not doing the work’ Will they be able to turn it around in time for the Helix performance.
Kian’s last battle of the night is with Law student Kelsey Hoare (20) and Waterford mum Mary Ward (25). Kian has chosen well known song Walking in Memphis by Marc Cohen, while Kelsey knows it Mary has never heard it and between them they spend a lot of time trying to get the melody right, which worries Kian.
The very last battle of this series will see Team Rachel go head to head with Derry native Ciaran O’Driscoll (27) and Belfast lass Alex Sykes. Rachel has picked an incredibly difficult song to sing Sia’s Chandelier and their contrasting styles don’t gel as well as Rachel expects. Who will she pick for the Live Knockouts?
