Four out of six ain't bad at Downpatrick
Cortown jockey Roger Loughran partnered his first winner for Longwood-based trainer Gordon Elliott at Downpatrick today as Meath trainers dominated taking the first four races on the six-race card.
Loughran was on board Buyer Beware to win a maiden hurdle for the owner and his sponsor, Dublin-based insurance broker Tim O'Driscoll (O'Driscoll / O'Neill Insurance).
Formerly trained by Jessica Harrington, Buyer Beware was running for his new owner for the first time and had previously won a one-mile Killarney maiden for Fran Berry last May.
Trainer Gavin Cromwell continued his good run of form with his second winner of the week when his Midnight Theatre took the second race on the card, another maiden hurdle.
Midnight Theatre stayed on well on the run-in to beat Meath jockey Andrew Lynch on board Steel's Cotton.
The appropriately-named Maighnealta took the third race for Moynalty trainer Des McDonogh and jockey Ben Dalton.
Maighnealta is jointly-owned by the trainer's wife Helen in partnership with trainer Jim Bolger.
The Meath theme continued in the fourth race when Elliott completed a double with Le Grand Chene and Bryan Cooper in a handicap chase.
The Summerhill man (Gordon Elliott) was denied a treble on the day when finishing second in the fifth race while there was no Meath runner in the first three in the last race.
Still, four out of six is twice as good as two out of three which ain't bad.
