Deserved success for Navan Town

There was more success on the soccer front for Navan this week when Navan Town secured the North East Football League Div 2 title and they even got a game desipte the non-appearance of Oldcastle Utd.

The success is a  follow up on the Premier success last week by Navan Cosmos. Navan Town were declared Div 2 champions after Enfield Celtic failed to beat Rathkenny Rovers on Thursday night. The Rathkenny men won that game by 4-3.

Today, Navan Town were scheduled to play Oldcastle but the north Meath club didn't turn up to play the game.

However, Navan Town got a game as Challenge Cup finalists Trim Celtic were in the MDL to play Louth side Rock Celtic but were also let down by a no-show,

Trim agreed to play Navan Town in a game that would have helped Trim in their cup final preparation.

Navan Town won by 5-3 with goals coming from David Bowens and Dylan Regan (two each) and Derek Bowens.

FACEBOOK

Navan Town stated on their Facebook page - It was a fantastic squad display today against quality opposition capped off a fantastic season in style with a feast of goals and attacking football to kick off the well deserved title celebrations. Congratulations to Mick, Bart and Ali and the whole first team squad on a fantastic year. Only the start of huge things to come from the club over the next few years.

MANAGEMENT MEETING

At a NEFL Club Management meeting last month where there was a discussion about teams withdrawing and failing to turn up a suggestion from Rock Celtic official Donal Lynch urged the NEFL committee to stay with the current format and introduce a mid-season break. The comments were made following suggestions that a chnage in the season might provide a solution to the problems that have been experienced this season.
