More recognition for Amanda McQuillan
Amanda McQuillan has been included in the nominees for the 2015/16 Continental Tyres Women's National Awards that will be presented on Wednesday 18th May.
McQuillan, who was twice a nominee for the Meath Chronicle / Cusack Hotel Group Young Sportsperson of the Year accolade, has been included in the 2015 / 2016 team of the season.
Earlier this year the Johnstown, Navan girl took the under-17 Women's International Player of the Year award at the 2016 Three FAI International Awards.
Amanda was twice nominated for the Meath Young Sportsperson of the Year award (2013 and 2014).
Amanda started her soccer with the boys team at Johnstown at the age of 11 as a centre-forward and deputised one day as a goalkeeper due to an injury to the regular custodian.
She excelled in her new role and moved to St Ultan's Ladies and then to Trim Celtic and was included in Republic of Ireland teams as a goalkeeper. She also won Leinster inter-provincial honours and moved to top Dublin club Shelbourne.
This season's Continental Tyres Women's National Awards feature a sparkling array of talent.
Wexford Youths WFC and Shelbourne Ladies FC, who played out a thrilling final game of the regular season to force a Play-Off for the title, have three players each selected to the Team of the Season.
Also making the cut for the Best XI are representatives from Galway WFC, Peamount United, and UCD Waves, with three players - Karen Duggan, Claire O'Riordan and Aine O'Gorman - making it onto the team for a second successive year.
Duggan and O'Gorman, who both play for UCD Waves, are in the running for the Senior Player of the Year alongside Wexford captain Kylie Murphy, while Evelyn Daly (Cork City WFC), Roma McLaughlin (Peamount United), and Keeva Keenan (Shelbourne Ladies FC) are up for the Young Player of the Year.
The 2015/16 Continental Tyres Women's National League Awards will take place in the Marker Hotel on Wednesday 18th May. There will also be a Services to Women's Football Award presented and an presentation of Golden Boot award.
