Awards for Meath musical societies
Three local talented performers won silverware at the annual Association of Irish Musical Societies’ (AIMS) annual music theatre awards in the INEC in Killarney last weekend.
Awards went to Ratoath Musical Society, Trim Musical Society and St Mary’s Musical Society, Navan.
The awards were announced in front of a sell-out crowd of 1,200 musical theatre aficionados, with Today FM presenter Fergal D’Arcy as MC.
Jessica Hackett, a member of Trim Musical Society, won the award for the Best Female Singer in the Gilbert Section for her role as 'Mabel in Pirates of Penzance’, while Danielle Williamson of Ratoath Musical Society won the gong for the Best Female Singer in the Sullivan Section for her role as 'Elle Woods’ in 'Legally Blonde’.
The award for best comedian went to Ronan Walsh of St Mary’s Musical Society, Navan, for his role in their production of 'Some Like it Hot’.
As always it was a night of glitz and glamour when the best musical societies in the country are honoured for their productions throughout the year.
Last year. Trim Musical Society scooped the overall award in the Gilbert section for their production of the Addams Family, as well as the awards for best visual and best director.
