Meath lady golfers expected to compete at Donabate

Women golfers from a number of Meath clubs are expected to compete next week in the 34th Mother & Daughter Foursomes at Donabate Golf Club with the popular competition now in its 34th year. The event is scheduled for Friday 1st July.

The late Maureen Moran, a lifelong member of Donabate and mother of the late Therese O’Reilly, an Irish international golfer, presented the Moran Trophy in memory of her late husband Freddie, an international sportsman.

Since its inception in 1982 many well-known names in Irish golfing circles have graced this perpetual trophy, including Donabate’s Mary McKenna MBE, who with her late mother Maureen won the competition in 1987.

As a young girl, Hazel Kavanagh, the ever popular, professional golfer won with her mum in 1997.

Many of the 'Daughters' who have won in recent years with their 'Mothers' have the distinction that their 'Mothers and Granmothers' had also won in previous years.

This popular competition is co-sponsored by the Moran Family, Miss Designer Golf and Halpenny Golf.

Last year's winners, Marie Falvey and Ciara Smith (Malahide) will be back in Donabate to defend their title.

Entry fee per person: €15.
