Meath set for Dublin encounter on Sunday
Meath football manager Mick O'Dowd has retained the starting 15 from the Leinster SFC quarter-final victory against Louth two weeks ago for Sunday evening's semi-final against Dublin at Croke Park, 6.35pm.
The manager and his selectors have made a number of positional changes with Andrew Tormey named at full-forward while Cian O'Brien moves to midfield to partner Harry Rooney with Eamon Wallace moving to the half-forward line.
Some 25 years after the four-game saga O’Dowd recalled being at all the games in 1991 and he suggested that Leinster football needs Meath and Dublin to be competitive again.
“I was doing my Leaving Certificate, I remember when the draw was made I knew it was in the middle of the exams, I felt I wouldn’t be going, but by Sunday morning I was definitely going,' he commented.
'Great memories of them, a wonderful month, I went to all the matches. That was a magical month, a really special Meath team, probably the last great year of that particular Meath team,” he added.
Maybe the dawn of a new era for Meath football is on the horizon on Sunday - what are the odds on another draw?
The Meath team is: Paddy O'Rourke; Donnacha Tobin, Donal Keogan, Mickey Burke; Darragh Smyth, Padraic Harnan, Alan Douglas; Harry Rooney, Cian O'Brien; Graham Reilly, Cillian O'Sullivan,Eamon Wallace; Dalton McDonagh, Andrew Tormey, Mickey Newman.
