Aldi store setback as planning decision appealed
Plans to bring an Aldi supermarket to Dunshaughlin have hit a setback after an appeal was lodged with an Bord Pleanala.
While Meath County Council granted planning permission to Aldi Stores (Ireland) Ltd for the discount food store last month, an appeal against this decision has been lodged with an Bord Pleanala, by Express Check-Out (Dunshaughlin).
The proposed development is on a 0.61 hectares site on the Lagore Road, and to the rear of properties on the east side of Dunshaughlin’s Main Street.
The plans include the demolition of an existing building on the site and the construction of a single story discount foodstore, including off-licence, with a gross floor area of 1,540 sq metres and a net retail area of 1,140 sq metres.
Access is proposed from the Lagore Road. The development also includes the erection of two free-standing double-sided illuminated signs, one internally illuminated gable sign, one poster sign and entrance glass signage as well as 94 car parking spaces.
The planning application was lodged last November and four submissions were received on the plans, including one from Express Check-out (Dunshaughlin), who have lodged the appeal.
Council planners requested further information on the plans in January and a decision to grant planning permission was made on 2nd June.
An appeal was lodged with an Bord Pleanala on 29th June and the board is due to rule on this appeal on 1st November. A second third party appeal by a local resident was late and therefore deemed invalid.
