Top 10 finish for Sara Treacy
Meath athlete Sara Treacy and two other Irish women Kerry O’Flaherty and Michelle Finn competed in the European Athletics Championships 3,000-metre steeplechase final in Amsterdam this evening where the Meath woman achieved a top 10 finish.
All three runners produced season's best performances to ensure their qualification.
In qualifying earlier this week Finn (Leevale) ran fourth in 9:45.93 to qualify for the final automatically and took seventh in today's race in 9:43.19.
Treacy finished fifth in in qualifying in 9:42.16 to take an automatic spot and took ninth today in a time of 9:45.19.
The Dunboyne AC athlete smashed her old personal best by a whopping 1.98 seconds in qualifying, but was unable to repeat that time today.
O'Flaherty (Newcastle) finished qualifying in 9:45.53 to make it as a fastest runner-up and was 12th today in 9:45.88.
The racew as won by Gesa-Felicitas Krause from Germany in 9:18.85.
