No fast tracking speed limit reductions in Meath housing estates
The introduction of a 30kph speed limit in all housing estates already taken in charge in Meath by the end of this year would not be practicable.
Independent Cllr Joe Bonner had made the call at the July meeting of the council. However, chief executive Jackie Maguire said that a review of existing speed limits was a large undertaking and would form a major work package for the council’s transportation department in 2016/17.
“Given the reources currently available, it is not possible to fast track the review to include all housing estates within the county which have been taken in charge”.
New national guidelines for setting and managing speed limits in Ireland were issued to all local authorities in April last year and the local bodies were requested to carry out a review and update speed limits within their administrative area in accordance with those guidelines. New special speed limit bye-laws are expected to be iimplemented by April next year.
