Somba and McGovern tops at Oldcastle
The OldcastleRoad Race over 5k took place this evening with Peter Brandon Somba taking the plaudits again around the streets of the north Meath town ahead of last year's winner Mark Kirwan of Raheny Shamrock.
Eimear McGovern (pictured at presentation) of Innyvale AC was the first woman home with Bridget Clarke of Na Fianna in second and Mary Watters from Navan AC in third.
The team winner of the event for the men went to promoting club St Brigid's and the ladies team prize went to Virginia Tri and Cycling club with four required to score for each team.
Another big entry and lots of spectators also with great interest in the under-age races that were run off first at 7.30pm.
Polular St Brigid's official Michel Heery was the MC on a good public address system and kept the spectators informed and up to date.
A huge local contingent and support from other Meath clubs contributed to this year's success on a testing route around Oldcastle with the start and finish in the centre of the town.
