VIDEO: Navan Town FC opening tomorrow
Ambitious Meath club Navan Town FC will complete the first part of a major development plan when they open their new pitch this weekend (Saturday 16th July) with a number of high-profile events planned as FAI boss John Delaney will mark the occasion with a visit to the venue.
The club has a large number of under-age teams and also has adult sides competing in the North East Football League.
The first team enjoyed a good 2015 / 2016 season and won the Div 2 title with plenty to spare as they scored 83 goals on the way to the trophy.
Club officials have developed the new pitches, a move that will secure the long-term future of the club, adjacent to the M3 motorway with access from the Navan-Trim road on the opposite side of the MDL across the motorway flyover.
Apart from the visit by the FAI boss, officials from the North East Football League and North Eastern Counties Schoolboys’ League will attend along with local elected representatives.
The Navan Town first team will also get a chance to play on the club’s new pitch for the first time and they will tackle League of Ireland side Waterford Utd, a team currently managed by Roddy Collins.
The long-term development by the club has been on-going at a steady pace over the last couple of years and the club has matched this progress off the pitch with progress on it and for this coming season they will play in the NEFL Div 1.
“We will be officially opening the facility on Saturday 16th July and we have a large number of activities scheduled from 10am in the morning,” commented popular club PRO Neil Murtagh.
“There will also be a shop with refreshments available on the day for our guests. There will be face painting for the younger kids and it is also planned to have a marquee with plenty of Navan Town memorabilia from the early days of the club.
“All the club officials and a large number of volunteers have worked very hard over the last few years to get to this stage and they are looking forward to showcasing our new facilities,” he added.

11am - 3 v 3 competition kick-off
1pm - presentations
1.30pm- Navan Town under-age presentations.
2.15pm- Official opening and ceremonial ribbon cutting.
2.45pm- Navan Town FC v Waterford Utd.
4.30pm- Navan Town senior presentations.
