European silver for young Meath darts thrower
Keane Barry from Duleek won a silver medal at the WDF European Youth Darts Cup singles in Budapest (Hungary) on Saturday.
The Meath teenager was also a member of the Irish boys team that produced a magnificent performance to win bronze in the team event.
In the singles, he qualified for the final following some fantastic throwing in the earlier rounds and the semi-final, but he was edged out in the decider by a talented opponent, Justin Van Tergouw, from the Netherlands.
Three Meath teenagers were in action at the event with Barry, Amy Byrne and Killian Heffernan all from the Meath Youth Darts Academy making the journey to Hungary.
According to team officials, the tournament was a big success with a fantastic venue, great hospitality and superb organisation.
The team and the officials returned to a tremendous reception at Dublin Airport on Sunday evening.
Barry will be in action in the Navan Eight-Night Dart Shootout in The Lantern on Saturday 6th August as he has already qualified along with Ben Corcoran, Stephen Kells, Richie Timmons and Joe Byrne with three more to qualify before the big night.
