Meath drink drive smash images have chilling echoes of old TV ad
An image of a car smashed into a garden hedge by an intoxicated driver and coming to rest just yards from a set of kids' goals is chillingly reminiscent of a famous anti-drink driving TV ad.
Meath traffic cops arrested and prosecuted the driver who received a three year ban and was fined €100.
The official Twitter account of An Garda Siochana tweeted the incident:
'Drink driver (scores own goal) Meath Traffic arrest and convicted in court, fined €100 and disqualified for three years)'
The accident location or date wasn't revealed but followers of @GardaTraffic spotted the similarities to the haunting 2009 TV road safety ad in which a male driver loses control of his car after drinking before it careers into the garden where a young boy is playing football.
One poster, Stephen Devine from Dublin remarked that the images were 'very close to to being like the horrific TV ad' while others felt the Garda Twitter account should rethink the use of the phrase 'scores own goal' given the seriousness of the matter.
