WATCH celebrations - All-Ireland title for Meath girls
Meath captured the Ladies All-Ireland MFC B title today at Mullingar when they proved too strong for Roscommon with a 4-9 to 3-1 victory. Meath were ahead by 4-5 to 1-0 at the interval after an opening half in which they played whirlwind football and survived missing a third minute penalty from which Marion Farrelly salvaged a point.
Farrelly added 2-2 while Kelsey Nesbitt and Megan Thynne also found the net with Thynne and Emma White completing the points tally. Roscommon found the net in the 16th minute when Caoimhe Lennon finished well with a lobbed effort.
Meath lost goalkeeper Laurie McClean to an early second-half yellow card and Roscommon substitute Heather Payne converted the resultant penalty.
That gave Roscommon a brief lift, but Meath remained in the ascendancy and added points from White and substitute Regina Hand before the Royals got back up to full strength.
Rachel Brady claimed Roscommon's first point in the 50th minute and Payne converted a second penalty soon after to reduce the deficit to 3-1 to 4-7.
Farrelly added a good point for Meath with four minutes remaining and Thynne completed the tally.
