Brother Act - McEntees could form new Meath senior football management team
Reports suggest that Andy McEntee will be proposed to be the next Meath senior football manager at Monday night’s Co Board meeting in Seneschalstown.
McEntee declared his interest in the position to the Meath Chronicle last week and after receiving the backing of the majority of clubs who submitted nominations before the closing date last Friday he is now the fore runner in the race to replace Mick O’Dowd who stepped down as Meath senior football manager following the All-Ireland SFC qualifier loss to Derry in Owenbeg on Saturday 9th July.
Former Dublin player Paul Curran was nominated by a club, but he has withdrawn his name for the running, while Sean Barry, Davy Nelson and Shane McAnarney were also put forward for the role by various clubs, but it now appears likely that McEntee will be offered the position.
It is also expected that should the Nobber man accept the role he could have a place on his backroom team for his brother Gerry, who was involved with Dublin underage teams for a few years and also took charge of St Brigid’s in Blanchardstown.
Rathkenny player and Castletown manager Donal Curtis is widely tipped to be part of the management team, while former Meath and Navan O’Mahonys player Finian Murtagh is another name mentioned as being part of the backroom set-up.
Andy McEntee is currently in charge of All-Ireland Leinster and Dublin senior club champions Ballyboden St Enda’s and would be a popular choice with the supporters who have yearned for success since the team last won an All-Ireland SFc title in 1999.
