Leaving cert results tomorrow
Tension is in the air for 2211 families across Meath tonight as they await the Leaving Certificate results which will be available in the morning.
Anxious students will be gathering at schools on Wednesday morning to learn their fate, while many others will wait to get their results online.
Some 2211 Meath students sat the Leaving Certificate in 19 schools around the county last June and the results will be delivered to schools this Wednesday.
The State Examinations Commission has advised students to check with their individual schools regarding specific times that morning.
Students can also access their results via the internet using their PIN number and examination number. PIN numbers have been made available through schools or have been sent directly to external candidates. This service will be available from 12 noon on Wednesday on www.examinations.ie
Of the 2211 students who sat the exam in Meath, 1101 were female and 1110 were male.
A further 97 sat the Leaving Certificate Applied exam - including 32 females and 65 males.
Minister Damien English congratulated the Meath Leaving Certificate students.
“The Leaving Certificate is an important stage in a young person’s life, and you should all be congratulated for your work,” the Minister for Housing and Urban Renewal said.
“I’d also like to acknowledge the role of families and teachers. Both are an invaluable source of support for students as they go through the senior cycle, and I know that many of them are as anxious as the students opening up their results envelopes.”
“From my previous role as Minister for Research, Skills and Innovation until May this year, I know that these really are exciting times for students, with more choices available than ever before. “They can avail of higher education options via the CAO system and also be able to consider an increased and enhanced range of apprenticeships. Alongside these possibilities, there are a wide range of high quality, accredited courses offered at the further education and Post Leaving Certificate level locally in Meath and across the North East region also.”
“I would urge all students to carefully consider all of their options when deciding on their next steps.”
The ISPCC has issued tips to help parents support young people who are receiving their Leaving Cert results.
Director of Services, Caroline O’Sullivan, stated: “Although there will be a lot of students who are happy with their results and looking forward to the next stepping stone in life, this week can be a challenging time for many families as some students may feel anxious waiting for their Leaving Cert results.
“Receiving disappointing exam results can be stressful and upsetting for both young people and their parents. While it can be hard to know the best way to support your son/daughter during this difficult time, there is plenty of support available for both parents and children.
“The best tip is to keep the communication lines open, support your son/daughter through listening and talking, and keep your own expectations in check. There can be a lot of pressure on young people to perform well in exams but they should be reassured that there are other options and this is just one stepping stone in life, there are many others.”
The ISPCC Childline service is available around the clock on 1800 666 666 or visit www.childline.ie for our online service.
Alternatively the National Parents Council (1800 265 165) provides advice and guidance for candidates and parents, staffed by professional guidance counsellors, for one week following the issue of the results.
