Gaeil Colmcille and Skryne in exciting draw
Gaeil Colmcille (1-11) and Skryne (2-8) played out an exciting SFC draw at Pairc Tailteann this evening in an exciting contest that the Kells side looked like winning until late in the second-half.
Fionn Reilly's first contribution for Gaeil Colmcille was to put the ball in the Skryne net, but the Kells side lost the benefit of that score almost immediately when Bryan Davis finished to the net at the other end as the game opened with a flourish.
Paddy O'Rourke sent over two points from play to settle the Skryne men, but Gaeil Colmcille found a response with a brace of points from Martin Barrett (one free) and the lead from Seamus Mattimoe's pointed free in the 13th minute.
Mattimoe managed the next score some 15 minutes later when he converted a fee for 1-4 to 1-2 interval lead after a period when Skryne tallied seven wides and hit the npost twice with point attempts.
Mattimoe increased Gaeil Colmcille's lead a minute after the resumption and Skryne eventually managed a score after a 28-minute barren spell when O'Rourke converted a free.
Conor O'Brien added a point for Skryne from play as the drizzle continued to fall as O'Rourke (free) drew the sides level at 1-5 each.
Mattimoe (three) and Barrett (two) added points for Gaeil Colmcille with O'Rourke (two) and O'Brien keeping Skryne in touch until O'Rourke's late goal edged the Tara men ahead a minute from time. Mattimoe remained composed from a free in added time to earn his side the draw.
