Trim by double scores against Castletown
Trim recorded a vital IFC win against Castletown by 0-16 to 0-8 at Páirc Tailteann this afternoon. It was point-for-point for most of the first-half with the teams level on five occasions.
Trim squandered goal chances when Eoin McGrath was foiled by a brave Jonathan Ginnity save and Ciaran O'Rourke was also denied by a defender as they were ahead by 0-6 to 0-5 at the interval.
James Toher sent over three (two frees) points for Trim with a brace from Eoin McGrath and one by Alan Douglas with Kevin Ross (two, one free), Shane Hoey, Robbie Hoey and Darren Finney sustaining Castletown.
Trim reeled off three second-half points immediately after the resumption with Daryl Lynch (two) and Neil Heffernan on target, but they didn't build on that and battling Castletown got back into contention with points from James Finnerty, Finney and Ross.
That reduced the deficit to two points (0-8 to 0-10), but Trim heeded the warning signs and upped the tempo to seal victory with a late flourish of points from Lynch (three), Douglas, Toher and Heffernan.
