Gardai searching for stolen cars recover three vehicles in Summerhill
Gardaí investigating the theft of cars in burglaries this evening searched premises in the Summerhill area of Co. Meath and recovered three vehicles (an Audi A4, an Audi A3 and VW Golf). The VW Golf was partially dismantled.
4kg’s of cannabis herb (subject to analysis) was also recovered with an estimated street value of €80,000. A number of private houses have also been searched.
During a related search of a property in Co Wicklow three cars (Audi A5, an Audi A1 and a Hyundai Tuscan) were recovered, all believed to be stolen earlier in burglaries.
Gardaí also stopped and searched a car on the N11, Co Wexford this afternoon 31st August 2016. During the course of the search of this vehicle car parts believed to be stolen were recovered. One man is his 50’s was arrested and is currently detained at Tallaght Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984 as amended.
Gardai believe that this Thor operation is a significant result in targeting this organised crime gang. This investigation into the distribution network for stolen car parts is ongoing.
As part of Operation Thor a targetted intelligence led operation was put in place by Gardai from the Dublin and Eastern regions to combat the distribution of stolen vehicles.
The operation focused on an organised crime gang that were stealing cars in residential burglaries across Dublin.
The recovery of the vehicles in Summerhill follows yesterday's operation in Oldcastle high powered cars, (one of which is pictured) a motor boat, ride on lawnmowers and power tools were seized.
A man in his 30s arrested yesterday, during the course of the search at a house in Rassilagh, Oldcastle, Co. Meath was due before Virginia District Court yesterday.
