All-Ireland title for Meath at Semple Stadium
Meath made amends for defeat in last year's All-Ireland u-21 B HC when they won the title today against Mayo by 1-20 to 0-15 at Semple Stadium, Thurles.
However, with just four minutes of the regulation hour remaining Meath's lead was just 1-13 to 0-15. Mayo were on the front foot and still well in contention in a game that ebbed one way and then the other throughout.
Meath pulled away and hit seven points in the remaining time plus added time to break the hearts and spirit of a Mayo side that battled all the way to the line.
“It has been a great year for Meath hurling, but if we had lost today it would have been very hard on some of these boys who lost last year's final. All in all it was a good year for Meath hurling and Meath hurling is certainly in a good place,' commented Meath manager Philip O'Brien.
