Weekly Parkrun grows in popularity
Next month on Saturday 15th October the first anniversary of the Navan Park Run will be celebrated at Blackwater Park and before that, on Saturday 1st October there will be a special event to mark International ParkRun Day.
The popular weekly event in Navan began in October 2015 - it is a weekly 5km timed run at 9.30am each Saturday morning.
Volunteers organise the run on a rota basis each week and since the event started it has continued to grow in popularity.
There is a core team of nine members who take turns in uploading the results, setting up the course and all admin on facebook or web.
The largest participation numbers for a weekly event so far was 255 and some 2,000 individuals have registered and are eligible to participate on a weekly basis.
It is a community event which needs the help of everyone to succeed with participants up to the age of 75 taking part every week, the main aim is to get people to socialise and get fit and healthy all at the same time.
The process for participants involves logging on to the website to register your details and print off the athlete id or barcode, this id is unique to the individual.
