Barry's Blacks book place in IFC semi-final with encouraging display
Playing some neat possession football Walterstown booked their place the last four of the IFC when they defeated Syddan, 0-14 to 0-11, at Pairc Tailteann today.
Eamonn Barry's side played the neater, sharper football to secure the win and their quest for a place back at the top table.
The Blacks were in front all the way building on a bright start to lead 0-7 to 0-4 at the interval before pushing on to wrap up the win.
Nine of their players got on the scoresheet with Alban Crosbie showing the way with five points, four from frees. John Geoghegan was next on the list with two fine points from play.
There were other first-rate scores from Brian O'Connell, Colin McGrane, David Donnellan, Mark McCormack, Ruairi O'Dowd, Cormac Madden and Joey Coogan to help Walterstown along the path to victory.
Syddan played in fits and starts and wasted some good approach work by shooting wide or dropping the ball short.
Daire Rowe bagged five points all from frees, and that gives an indication of the kind of problems they had in creating scoring opportunities
Walterstown were adept at stringing passes together while Syddan were less cohesive in their moves.
Ben Bashford, Kevin Traynor, Sean Clare, Ian Curran, Gary McManus and the full-back Stephen Dillon were among those to point for Syddan but they needed a goal or two to inject some momentum into their faltering challenge.
In the SFC at Ratoath this evening Summerhill marched to a comfortable 4-14 to 0-8 victory over St Pat's.
Barry Dardis grabbed two of the Summerhill goals while Bobby Lyons and Davy Larkin also found the net for John Lyon's team who had this lacklusture encounter wrapped up at the break when they led 4-6 to 0-5.
Alan Vickers topscored for St Pat's, who were already safe from relegation, with three excellent points from play.
There were few other highlights for the Stamullen side.
