New Gigginstown winner for Elliott but not the real new ones
One of the 'new' Gigginstown arrivals at Gordon Elliott's Longwood yard won at Gowran today - but not one of the recently-arrived Willie Mullins collection on this occasion.
Lieutenant Colonel was formerly trained by Sandra Hughes and was last seen finishing sixth at Punchestown in the Champions Stayers' Hurdle behind One Track Mind at the end of April.
Today at Gowran, despite an absence of 157 days, and running for Elliott for the first time, Lieutenant Colonel got the better of another Gigginstown horse, Just Cause, in the concluding beginners chase.
The win completed a double for Elliott and moves him on to the 53-winner mark for the season - four clear of champion trainer Willie Mullins.
The other Elliott winner was Blood Crazed Tiger which won a maiden hurdle.
